What does it mean to have “sensory processing differences” ? So many parents, families, and teachers have expressed confusion about this phrase. Is it behavior, or is it sensory? (Probably a bit of both, actually).
This printable packet provides several pages that explain the Sensory Processing Model (which is used diagnostically for children with sensory modulation disorders) in easy to understand language with visuals.
It also includes four one-page handouts on each of the different sensory categories: Sensory Seekers, Sensory Sensors, Sensory Avoiders, and Sensory Bystanders.
Each handout has tips and examples for supporting children with their sensory patterns and preferences.
“I feel like I finally understand her,” one of my client’s mothers told me tearfully after reading this handout. She expressed how she felt profound relief to finally have a framework to understand that her child was not trying to be challenging or difficult – she was simply experiencing the world differently.

Stay tuned: I hope to eventually release a complementary handout that explains sensory processing disorders which impact motor coordination and planning!
